Following the flag off of the Kolmani River II Well by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Tuesday, March 19, said it has drilled up to 6,700 feet so far. Daily Trust reports that Baru while receiving an award presented to him by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) executive in Abuja said the target for the drilling process was 14,200 feet.
He however said that the depth of the drilling could be longer depending on findings in order for the corporation to confirm the presence and volumes of oil and gas at the Kolmani River-II Well. Also speaking on the project, chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Anthony Okoroafor, during a courtesy call on the GMD at the NNPC Towers, Abuja on Tuesday, March 19, commended Baru for engineering transformation in every aspect of the petroleum industry since his assumption of office.
Okoroafor said the resumption of exploration in the inland basins and the flag-off of Bonga southwest project which has been in the shelf for more than 10 years as fruits of the GMD’s visionary leadership and doggedness. Commending PETAN for its contribution to the development of the Nigerian Petroleum Industry, Baru said said the corporation was pledging its support for the association. “My pride in PETAN is that, today, we have the capacity and expertise as Nigerians to carry out any job in the industry that was hitherto done by foreigners. As a champion of Nigerian content, we will continue to support you in whatever way we can,” Baru said.
Meanwhile, Neareel.com previously reported that President Buhari on Saturday, February 2, in Bauchi state, instructed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to extend oil exploration activities to six basins in the country. The president gave the instruction at the Barambu town in Alkaleri local government area of the state while flagging off the drilling activities. Buhari asked that the activities be extended to the Chad, Gongola, Anambra, Sokoto , Dahomey, Bida basins and Benue trough. |Neareel TV
