Nigerians have reacted to the news that President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff, Abba Kyari, has tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus.
Some Nigerians in their reactions said the pandemic will show leaders in Nigeria the essence of having a functioning health system in the country. According to them, leaders cannot even embark on health tourism at this point in time.
In his reaction, a social commentator, Dayo Williams accused the presidency of not coming out to debunk the story. He said he expected the seat of power to have issued a press statement regarding the issue. “Till this moment, presidency has neither confirmed nor debunked the story that Abba Kyari tested positive to coronavirus.
“By now, I expect those in Aso Rock to have issued a press statement regarding the issue. “The Federal Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, is keeping a sealed lip on the issue. So with the NCDC,” he wrote.
In his reaction, Akadri Layiwola said the fact that Kyayi has been diagnosed with the dreaded virus is a great warning to Nigerian leaders.
“This is a great warning to our leaders, who always think they are alpha and Omega,” he wrote on Facebook. On his part, Wale Adetona urged people in Aso Rock to as a matter of urgency isolate themselves.
“It’s now confirmed that the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, has tested positive for Covid-19.
“Everyone in Aso-Rock should go on quarantine ASAP! My question, why was he not advised to self-isolate after his Germany trip?” Abu Rayyan while reacting to the news, however, urged people not to wish calamity on the chief of staff.
“There is every possibility of Abba Kyari surviving this as many did. #coronavirus is not a death sentence. Celebrating and wishing him dead won’t make you immune from the virus. This is a disgraceful behavior to say the least,” he wrote on Twitter.
